Syrian Refugees Crisis, Post Trump Election

screenshot-2016-11-27-11-31-19

Approximately 86,000 Syrian immigrants resided in the United States in 2014, accounting for 0.2 percent of the nation’s 42.4 million immigrants. Though the population remains a small one, its growth occurred largely after the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 abolished the national-origins quota system and opened the door to Syrians seeking safety from war and persecution, as well as education and employment opportunities and family reunification. Between 2010 and 2014, the population grew approximately, owing largely to the start of the Syrian civil war in 2011.

The majority of Syrian immigrants come to the United States through family reunification channels rather than as refugees or asylum seekers or through employment-based channels. Compared to the overall foreign and native-born populations, Syrian immigrants on average are significantly older, more highly educated, and less likely to participate in the labor force (because of lower workforce participation by women). However, employed Syrians are more likely to work in high-skilled occupations—particularly in the sectors of educational services, health care, and social assistance, and retail trade—and have higher earnings than the overall foreign or native-born populations.

How I lost my Golf Partner to Donald Trump!!

Golfing short

By

Ahmed Tharwat

I took up golfing right after  realizing that  I couldn’t play soccer anymore, couldn’t run, so I took walking as a sport, besides as  a Muslim I wanted to be assimilated.

Growing up in Egypt I had never had a chance to play this illusive game or even come close to being on a golf course. Golf is still an individualistic and very much a disciplined game for someone who played and lived for a long time with the game of proximity and improvisation: the game of soccer. Golf needs a conservative mindset that uses linear thinking. Soccer is more liberal that requires a nonlinear mindset. GOLF is basically a men’s game – as men golfers say – stands for Guys Only Ladies Forbidden, Ha ha ha, don’t drop your beer.

The story of an ethnic restaurant, Tahini Authentic Falafel & Shawarma

Notes from America
Who Ate my Cheese!
Who Moved My Cheese? a self improvement book written by Spencer Johnson, coauthor of The One Minute Manager, the book illustrates the vital importance of being able to deal with unexpected change. is often distributed by managers to employees as a motivational tool, but as was reported in a review “the lessons it teaches can benefit literally anyone, young or old, rich or poor, looking for less stress and more success in every aspect of work and life.” Who ate my cheese, is a story about self preservation, it is about Arabs Americans and their cheese. Arab Americans in tough times would seek comfort and refuge in the warmness of their ethnic foods. As their nomad ancestors had done for hundreds of years before them; carrying their food wherever they go would save them from the harsh inhospitable desert terrain. Uh… the frying sizzling of falafel, the richness aroma of shaworma (Gyro), the tanning smoothness of BABA GHANNOU and Hummus, the beauty of artfully display of meza and the heavy sweetness of Baklava all take us back to the comfort and security of our home. But no other Middle Eastern food reflects our ethnicity and identity as feta cheese; we have as many different kind of feta cheese as nationalities; Egyptian, Greek, Lebanese, Moroccan, and Palestinian and we try them all. So if you want to measure the Arab American melting pot index in the US, don’t look at the employment or housing index, you should look at Who Ate my Cheese? Look at the consumption of feta index and its ratio to the consumption of American cheese. Americans seems to treat cheese as dead food that is wrapped in plastic bags and kept in the refrigerator like corpses. Arabs treat cheese like fresh meat that should be cut before your eyes and kept in the open for everyone to see and smell. Second generation Arab American children; however, lose this reverence right after their first trip to MacDonald’s restaurant and experience the taste of the melted cheese in their happy meal.

What Donald Trump phenomenon says about GOP and America!!

My interview with political consultant Bob Meek

How Donald Trump stole the election and America , my conversation with Political consultant Bob Meek,,
While the clashes have mounted as Trump comes closer to securing the nomination, this violence has been part of his campaign from the beginning. Supporters of the likely GOP nominee have been punching, kicking, choking, and harassing people at his events and in his name since he launched his campaign. It’s not surprising when he entered the presidential race by comparing Mexicans to rapists and criminals, and has since insulted women, disparaged Muslims and immigrants, and threatened violence against Black Lives Matter activists and other protesters.
